Tommy Gun Forsale - Lot 565: Colt 1921 Fully Automatic Three-Gauge "Thompson" Submachine Gun Auction Date: April 21, 2013 Colt Model 1921 Fully Automatic Three-Gang "Thompson" Submachine Gun
This is an example of an early production 1921 Model Thompson submachine gun, manufactured by the Colt Firearms Company circa 1921/22. This particular submachine gun retains its early original 1921 configuration. The Thompson SMG is perhaps one of the best known and most recognizable SMGs produced and infamously used by US law enforcement agencies, the Mafia and the US Marine Corps in Nicaragua beginning in 1928 during the era of Prohibition and the Underworld Wars. Sales of these 1921 models were flat in their first few years, and most were later upgraded to the 1928 configuration, but this example still retains its original 1921 configuration. This particular weapon still has early distinctive Thompson features such as; Original short 10 1/2" barrel with wings, unmarked "Cuts" type compensator, vertical front pistol grip, detachable stock and a fully adjustable Thompson trapezoidal rear sight graduated from 100-600 yards, and original Early style, recoil spring rail. The left side of the receiver is now marked "MODEL OF 1921 / NO 5526" and the factory marking block on the rear of the receiver reads "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN / CALIBER .45 AUTOMATIC COLT CARTRIDGE / COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO./HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.". On the right are five lines of patent dates and two lines of "AUTO-Ordnance Corporation, / NEW YORK U.S.A." The top of the receiver is marked with the original Auto Ordnance "Bullet" logo and "AUT-ORD-CO" initials Marked with. Bullet mark inside. Lower receiver/trigger housing set marked "3780", left side of pistol grip and stock marked "PC-50" with no other visible police markings This SMG includes an original Thompson/Auto-Ordnance marked 50-round drum magazine and an original Thompson oiler. These are some of the best, if not the best SMGs out there, and if you ever need to take one of these weapons apart If you get the chance, you'll be amazed at their build quality, with the parts sliding together like glass.
Tommy Gun Forsale
The overall look is very good, retaining 75% of the original blue color, with slight thinning overall and slight loss of blue color on the sides and rear of the receiver. Traces are crisp and clear, and the hand loops are perfect. The stock, pistol grip and foregrip are in near perfect condition, all three pieces are a very matching medium brown color and generally only show very slight signs of handling on the sides and bottom of the stock.
